Micro-Precision Carbide

Materials & Quality

Material selection, carbide inspection items, batch documentation and order-specific quality planning for industrial products.

Material Selection and Inspection Built Around the Order

MPC manufactures standard and custom industrial products and defines the inspection plan according to the material, product form, drawing, application and customer specification.

Routine checks can be performed internally. Additional material, mechanical-property, microstructure or third-party testing can be arranged when agreed for the order.

Three Inspection Routes

The inspection source and report format are selected according to the product and the agreed acceptance criteria.

Internal Inspection

Routine dimensional, appearance and available physical-property checks are performed according to the product requirements.

Manufacturing or Testing Partner

Additional batch, material-property and microstructure reports can be provided through qualified partners when required.

Independent Third Party

Customer-specified third-party testing can be evaluated before production, subject to the required method and sample plan.

Representative Carbide Inspection Items

Depending on the carbide grade, product type and order, inspection may include the following items. They are not fixed values for every product.

  • Density
  • Hardness (HRA or HV, as applicable)
  • Transverse rupture strength (TRS)
  • Coercive force (Hc)
  • Porosity
  • Average WC grain size
  • Microstructure, graphite and eta-phase examination

Material Selection Without an Exhaustive Grade Table

Carbide selection can start from cobalt-binder level, WC grain-size class, hardness, wear resistance, toughness and the customer's existing grade. The final grade, property range and acceptance criteria are confirmed for the product and application.

Representative Tungsten & Molybdenum Inspection Items

Depending on material, product form and order, inspection can include the following items; the applicable method and values are agreed for the order.

  • Chemical composition and impurity levels
  • Density
  • Dimensions, tolerances and surface condition
  • Hardness or conductivity, where applicable
  • Mechanical properties or microstructure to the agreed specification

Representative Surface Engineering Inspection Items

Powder, hardfacing material and applied-coating checks are selected according to the supplied product or service.

  • Chemical composition
  • Particle-size distribution or sieve analysis
  • Apparent density and flowability
  • Particle morphology or phase analysis, where required
  • For applied coatings: thickness, hardness, porosity or bond strength as agreed

Documents That Can Be Agreed

  • Batch inspection report or certificate of analysis
  • Dimensional inspection record
  • Material or microstructure report
  • Third-party report when specifically arranged
  • Order and drawing traceability information

Confirm the Inspection Plan Before Production

Please state the required test items, standard or method, sampling level, acceptance values and report format with the inquiry. Availability and any additional testing cost will be confirmed before production.
